Abstract

The main purpose of this research is to maintain the population of alabio duck, which is the germplasma in South Kalimantan. While the specific objectives of this study are expected to be able to prepare alabio ducks that are free from Avian Influenza (AI) virus. AI virus is type A influenza virus with birds as the main host. AI virus is broadly divided into Low Pathogenic Avian Influenza (LPAI) and High Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI). One source of the spread of AI is the live poultry market because of poor biosecurity, cleanliness and poor sanitation that causes the spread and transmission of AI viruses in the poultry market. Samples were collected by cloaca swab in the poultry market of Hulu Sungai Utara District (HSU). Obtained 14 samples taken from ducks suspected of being sick with clinical symptoms of torticollis, tremor and difficulty standing, isolated on TAB Specific Negative Antibody (SAN) then incubated for five days, after the allantoic fluid incubation period was tested by hemagglutinin (HA) test and test hemaglutinin-Inhibition (HI). The results showed six that samples of virus were positive. So it can be concluded that ducks that are traded in the HSU poultry market are infected with AI virus H5N1 subtype and the HSU poultry market has the potential as a place for the spread of AI to both poultry and buyers.
