Abstract

Cayenne is one of the most important horticultural commodities in Indonesia. Hiyung Cayenne is a local Cayenne from the Hiyung village, Tapin Tengah sub-district, Tapin districts, Kalimantan Selatan Province. This Cayenne has been named the hottest pepper in Indonesia because it has capsaicin levels reaching 94.500 ppm. Hiyung Cayenne has adapted well to the growing environment in Hiyung Village which is dominated by swamp land, however, the land has a moderate to moderate fertility rate. According to local farmers, Hiyung cayenne will reduce the level of spiciness if cultivated outside of Hiyung village. Therefore, it is necessary to research how the characteristics of the swamp land used for Hiyung cayenne farming and how to cultivate it so that Hiyung cayenne can be planted and grow well elsewhere, and production can be increased. To find out the characteristics of swamp land used, it is done by taking samples of soil around the land that is being planted with Hiyung Cayenne when the Hiyung cayenne is ready to be harvested. The soil sample is then analyzed for some of the soil chemical properties. To find out how the way to cultivate Hiyung Cayenne was interviewed with farmer who owns the land that is taken for example. Soil samples were taken at 12 points with diverse land management. The results of the study show that almost all farmers gave manure to the land used, and only a few farmers do liming. The type of fertilizer given is almost the same, namely urea, ponska and mutiara fertilizer but the amount is very diverse. The level of soil fertility used is classified as low to high.
