Abstract

Many factors cause traffic accidents which include road users, physical aspects of the road, driving vehicles and the environment, but road users are often accused of being the main cause of traffic accidents, in fact much evidence indicates that road planning or design is lacking both often cause or even support the occurrence of accidents, things that we cannot exclude are environmental factors of the construction of the road, namely in the form of road contours, development of areas built / construction of residential areas and / or industrial areas, volatility of the basic road structure as a foundation under way , the position of the sun facing the driver and the gusts of wind perpendicular to the road and other things related to the other environment. Modern approaches to preventing and reducing accidents have the potential to protect accident victims from deaths, injuries and property losses. This paper presents several road design and design principles related to traffic-oriented environments: including road geometric planning in the form of vertical and horizontal alignments, area development is carried out in land arrangement and use, for the unstable structure of the subgrade is carried out  cliff reinforcement, for the position of the sun and gusts of wind is carried out by planting protective trees and signposts and warnings for motorists.
