Abstract

Low sperm fertility in bulls may decrease reproductive efficiency, thereby decreasing the number of populations that may affect food security. This study aims to predict the fertility of sperm Bali bulls fed with feed supplement Moringa oleifera (Moringa) leaf and Zn mineral by using Computerized-Assisted Semen Analysis (CASA). Two Bali bulls were kept three periods, each period of eight weeks. The first period (control), given  concentrate 1% of body weight and ad lib rice straw. The second period (giving of Moringa leaves) was fed same with the first period plus Moringa 15% of concentrate  weight. The third period (giving Zn), was fed same with the first period plus Zn mineral equivalent to Zn on Moringa leaf in the second period. The sperm motility characteristic values (DCL, DSL, DAP, VCL, VSL, VAP, LIN, STR, ALH, BCF, and WOB) were measured twice a week using CASA to predict sperm fertility. The value of characteristics fresh sperm motility of Bali bulls were fed with moringa leaves and Zn minerals were significant (P<0.05) better than controls, but there was no significant difference (P> 0.05) between those with Moringa leaves and mineral Zn. The values of sperm characteristics post-thawing motility  showed no significant difference (P> 0.05) between control, Moringa leaf and Zn mineral. Zn minerals in Moringa leaves play a role in improving the sperm motility of fresh sperm of Bali bulls, so it is predicted to produce more fertile sperm.
