Strategi bertahan hidup komunitas penambang intan tradisional di Kecamatan Cempaka, Kota Banjarbaru

Abstract

This research try to explain the survival strategy of traditional diamond mining community in Cempaka Subdistrict in their daily life. Study case method was used to explore how the community still survive to work as miners even they face continuous uncertainty about their daily income. A group of traditional diamond mining community being the subject of this research. Data collected through participant observant and in-depth interview techniques and analyzed with qualitative approach. The result show that this community have a special local wisdom called Baharit culture as their survival strategy. This culture implemented through few norms and activities among the miners in the community such as their habit to never get some loan from anyone outside the community, maximizing all resources to fulfill their daily needs, and take some extra work when the mining activity is closed for some limited time. This culture is a unique survival strategy that influenced by their faith to Islam as their religion and make them believe that being a miner is the way to get prosperity in the future.
