Abstract

The research aimed to know the technical relationship between different amount of inputs or factors of production employed and the corresponding output yielded in the tidal wetland rice farming which was represented by the function of production; and to evaluate whether or not the quantities of factors used had been allocatively efficient and satisfied the profit maximization.  The research was conducted in the District of Barito Kuala at the growing season of 2017. The estimation of the function of production included factors of land, labor, seed, lime, fertilizer, and herbiside performed good which was indicated by R2adj. = 89.9%. The regression analysis of the function of production showed that the factors of land, seed, home-owned and hired labor, and chemical fertilizer significantly influenced the rice production. The elasticity of production of factors of home-owned labor and chemical fertilizer were positive (0 < EPi < 1); meanwhile, the elasticity of production of seed and hired labor had negative sign and, thereby, meaning negative influence  to rice production. In addition, the factor of land in the production process was not allocatively efficient yet because of underutilisation; meanwhile, factors of seed and hired labor were said not allocatively efficient because of overutilization. To be efficient and satisfying the profit maximization, the quantity of land used had to be increased, and both the factors of seed and hired labor had to be reduced to the point which equated marginal value product of factors to its marginal factor costs
