Abstract


One of solar thermal utilization is Trombe wall, which created different air density. Air density differential caused heater/ventilation effect to the room. A flat surface Trombe wall usually utilized, the air flow only occurred by the air density differentials, which caused slow air sirculation. In order to optimize heat transfer and air flow in Trombe wall system, grooved Trombe wall surface suggested. The experiment  done with two north façade Trombe wall systems, one with flat surface, and another with trapezium grooved surface. Inlet, outlet, and Trombe surface temperature collected. The data collected from 07.55 am until 17.25 pm, with 10 minutes interval, using LM35 data acquisition system. The result, grooved Trombe wall has higher inlet, outlet, and surface temperature. Grooved Trombe wall system has 53% inlet temperature is higher than outlet, which showed faster convection heat transfer. Nusselt number analysis showed that grooved Trombe wall has relatively lower Nusselt number.
