Abstract

Nagara cowpea are planted in the South Kalimantan’s swampy land at dry season. .Invigoration is conditioning/priming on seeds to increase germination potential. Concentration of Poly Ethylene Glycol (PEG) and soaking time affect seed viability of Nagara cowpea.  The purpose of this research was to study interaction effect between PEG  concentration (C) and soaking time (L) on seed viability. The study was arranged in a Factorial Completely Randomized Design  with 3 Replication, in April - October 2019 at the Biology Laboratory, Faculty of Agriculture, Lambung Mangkurat University, Banjarbaru. The variables were germination percentage, percentage of  radicle emergence at the first day, growth speed, index vigor, seed growth simultaneity,  dry weight of normal seedlings, root length, & plumula lenght. If the interaction was significant, then it was followed by DMRT while  single factor by LSD each at a 5 % level.. The C x L interaction influences the growth speed, vigor index, seed growth simultaneity, and plumula length. The single factor of concentration affect all variables, except the root length and plumula lenght, while the single factor  soaking time has a significant effect on the percentage of radicle emergence on the first day and plumula lenght.  The combination of treatments that meet the seed quality requirements  were l0c0 (89.33%), l1c1 (81.33%), and l1c3 (80.67%). In general, the best treatment combination was  0.00% PEG with 8 hours of soaking (l1c0). Soaking the seeds in water, markedly increased the germination percentage from 61.56% to 83.33%, the growth speed from 29.36% etmal to 10.64% etmal, vigor index from 22.22% to 40.00%, simultaneity of seed growth from 51.56% - 66.00%, dry weight of normal seedlings from 0.33 g to 0.49 g, root length from 8.75 cm to 13.52 cm, and the length plumula from 7.09 cm to 9.93 cm.
