Jenis penyu laut di Pulau Denawan Kecamatan Pulau Sembilan Kabupaten Kotabaru
Abstract
Pulau Sembilan, an outermost district in South Kalimantan has relatively high biodiversity. Sea turtles are reptiles which almost all their lifetime in the sea and able to migrate very far. Because of less knowledge about the types and benefits turtles in Pulau Denawan, one of the islands in Pulau Sembilan District, the research was carried out on 1 – 7 May 2017. The purpose of this research was to collect data of the species and the benefits of the turtles in Pulau Denawan. Methods used were interviews and observation in the field. There were two types of sea turtles, namely the Green Turtle (Chelonia mydas) and Hawksbill (Eretmochelys imbricata). Green turtles was commonly found with a total 43 individuals. Thirty four individuals of Green Turtle laid the eggs and 9 individuals did not. The carapace of this turtle ranged 105-116 cm long and 92- 112 cm wide. The depth of nests on green turtles ranges 56-60 centimeters and diameter a range 24-25 cm. While turtles scales found were 16 individuals, with turtles which lays about 9 individuals and not spawn were 7 individuals. Hawksbill has long range 85-90 cm carapace, and a wide range of 92-112 cm carapace. The depth of the in turtles scales ranges 37-40 centimeters and diameter the nest ranges 19-21 cm.
