Abstract

Fat is a source of energy for the body and helps in absorption of certain minerals. Fish ovarium fat contains bioactive components such as a-tocopherol, carotenoids, and coenzyme Q10 which are very important for the development of fish embryos and beneficial for human health. This study aims to determine the fat content in the ovarium of timpakul fish (Periophthalmodon schlosseri) in the Village of Kuala Lupak, South Kalimantan. The method used is the Soxhlet method using 30 samples with 14 ovaries found based on body weight and sampling place, namely in the river and in mangroves. The obtained ovaries were tested using the Soxlet method. The results obtained are fat content in the river fish ovarian organs is 7.28±1.634% for the large body weight group, 4.396±0.481% for the medium weight group and 7.155 for the small body weight group, while the fat content of the mangroves fish ovarian organs is 5.09±0.573% for the large body weight group, 4.571±2.062% for the medium weight group and for small weight group, no ovaries were found. Based on the results, the highest fat content of ovaries for the river fish was in the large body weight group of 7.28±1.634, while the fat content of ovaries for the mangroves fish was the highest in the large body weight group of 4.571±2.062.
